Lavish Luxuries - Fibers

Silver Alpaca Top
Alpacas are domesticated animals of the South American Andes. Their fiber is stronger than most wools and has a soft silky touch. Due to its strength, garments made from alpaca wear well. Staple lengths range from 8-18 inches. For a lofty yarn hold your fiber loosely and add just enough twist to keep the fiber together. Too much twist and your yarn will become wiry.

Mohair Top
Mohair is the shorn fleece of the Angora goat. Although natives of the Ankara Province of Turkey, angora goats were exported to Australia, America and the Cape Province of South Africa during the middle of the 19th century. Today most domestic mohair comes from Texas. The first clippings produce the finest fiber. As the goat matures its hair becomes progressively coarser. Mohair is very strong and lustrous–perfect for rainbow dyeing.
