Alpacas are domesticated animals of the South American Andes. Their fiber is stronger than most wools and has a silky soft touch. Due to its strength, garments made from alpaca wear well. Staple lengths range from 8-18 inches. For a lofty yarn hold your fiber loosely and add just enough twist to keep the fiber together. Too much twist and your yarn will become wiry.
