Pom Pom Magazine’s 5th Anniversary Issue

Happy birthday, pompom!

It’s pompom Magazine’s 5th anniversary, and they’re celebrating with style. Not only is there a new [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] issue, but they have also released a special anniversary edition of their very first issue in honor of the occasion. Now you can catch the issue that started it all…

Despite five whole years of fashion having gone by since its original release, the patterns in pompom’s debut issue are still bright, cheerful, and wonderfully modern. The cropped Netherton Cardi on the cover is also done up as a pullover, shown below:

I love the little triangle details at the cuffs and hem. This was knit out of DK weight yarn – I’m daydreaming about using Jo Sharp Classic DK Wool Yarn or even Jo Sharp Soho Summer DK Cotton Yarn for a summertime sweater. It is cropped, after all. This issue contains a handful of other charming patterns, some interesting reads and of course, a cocktail recipe to cap it all off. Rhubarb and vanilla bellini, anyone?

Anniversaire from pompom Summer 2017But what about the hefty [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] issue? Full of festivity, you can find a pattern for every knitter here. The complex Anniversaire cardigan has just about every kind of cable you can think of, and the garter stitch edges make for a cozy, casual wear-all-the-time sweater. Malabrigo Arroyo Yarn in a more tonal shade would be great for this.

Soiree Pullover from pompom Summer 2017I have also recently been enamored with boxy, rectangular sweaters like this Soiree pullover. Knit up in a drapey yarn like Jo Sharp Alpaca Kid Lustre Yarn, this would be lovely.

Jamboree sweater from pompom Summer 2017The Jamboree sweater is probably my favorite project from this collection. The stripes are beautifully done, the colors are great, and just look at that neckline. Then there’s the slight flare at the hem that bring this traditional 60’s silhouette right in to 2017 without looking one bit like a costume. My knitting wish list just got longer! This pattern uses a heavy lace weight yarn like Malabrigo Lace Yarn, or you could make it extra special and use Jade Sapphire Cashmere 2-ply Yarn. Actually, I could even use mini cones of JaggerSpun Maine Line 2/8 Yarn for a more traditional yarn choice.

I could probably write a novel about all the patterns I love from this issue, but I will reign that in for now. With patterns for hats, hands and feet as well, you’ll find a healthy blend of colorwork and fancy stitchin’ to inspire you. This double-thick issue is definitely one to keep on the shelf for years to come. And the recipe? A Peachy Celebration Cake to enjoy on happy occasions. Happy birthday, Pom Pom!
