Run, don’t walk to get your Yarn to Yards Balance. This tiny piece of equipment formerly known as the McMorran Yarn Balance is an invaluable tool for anyone who has ever found themselves longing to use a “mystery” yarn. Does this sound familiar? You find the perfect yarn in your stash for a project, but it doesn’t have a label and you just don’t know if you’ll have enough. Ugg! In comes comes the Yarn to Yards Balance to the rescue.
How’s it work? Simply loop a strand of yarn over the balancing arm. Trim the yarn until the arm balances. Remove the yarn, measure it in inches and multiple the length by 100. That number will be an estimate of the number of yards per pound. Multiple that number by the weight of your yarn and presto magic you’ve got an estimate of the yardage of your yarn.
