A Weaver’s Guide to Yarn by Liz Gipson is an essential resource for understanding yarn selection—especially for rigid heddle weavers, but valuable for all weavers and loom types. Drawn from over a decade of teaching, writing, and hands-on problem-solving with weavers, this guide brings together the answers you’ve been searching for—clearly explained and all in one place.

Yarn is endlessly versatile, and sometimes frustrating! This approachable, experience-based guide helps demystify how to choose the right yarn for your projects, so your materials work with you, not against you.

Written with the rigid heddle loom in mind (and excellent for any weaver!), the book begins with one of the biggest challenges weavers face: selecting yarn. From there, it explores how yarn is measured, how it’s made, and what it’s made from, along with practical tips for purchasing yarn in a variety of formats.

Liz demystifies the vocabulary and selection process, and explores the quirks of weaving yarn. She is a terrific guide in your yarn journey, she has designed looms for Schacht, taught weaving and design, herded sheep, and brought humor, warmth and skill to thousands of weavers!
