Zephira is dyed carefully to create consistent, radiant color and a clean, elegant finish. Each large cone is approximately 1 lb. offering generous, continuous yardage, perfect for warp, weft, or large-scale lace knitting without frequent joins. Mini Cones are 550 yards, making them terrific for multi-colored pieces or smaller accessories!

While not identical, Zephira is a wonderful (and very close) substitution. The fiber blend, construction, and color palette are made to match. Zephira is now made in Italy, and we're impressed with the even and consistent spin. We've found it completely suitable for any project we would have used the Zephyr in previously. That said, there are some differences that you'll want to note if you're accustomed to Zephyr. Zephira is ever-so-slightly loftier and more elastic. If you're considering using them together in the same warp you may find a difference in tension between the two, which could lead to a slight 'seersucker' rippling effect. You'd be better off to use one in warp and the other in weft. Likewise, if you're used to the Jagger Zephyr, you will want to pay close attention to your tension since the Zephira may have a little more stretch so it will change your take up and draw in just a little. While you shouldn't need to change your sett, we do find it a little loftier, so the finished piece may appear a little fuller; therefore if you're trying to replicate the look of Zephyr, err on the side of setting looser and you may want to sample and adjust as needed before planning the full piece.

Notable differences:

• Slightly loftier/thicker than Zephyr
• Zephira is slightly more elastic; Zephyr had very minimal draw-in and 'stretch' in the take up, plan for around 5% with Zephira
• Adjust your tension and plan for a little additional yardage for take-up and draw-in (or knitting gauge)
• If combining Zephira and Zephyr, use one for warp, one for weft to avoid subtle rippling
• Finished fabrics may appear a touch fuller; when replicating Zephyr, consider sampling at a slightly looser sett
• Zephira has 4,456 yards per pound compared to Zephyr's 5,040 yards per pound

Overall, we find Zephira fully suitable for any project previously made with Zephyr, with rich colors, a consistent twist, and a smooth finish.

For Knitters

Zephira shines in lacework—especially Estonian-style Haapsalu shawls, heirloom wraps, and intricate openwork that benefits from wool’s memory and silk’s glow. Mini cones are perfectly sized for lace shawls and small projects.
For larger gauges, Zephira can be worked beautifully in multiple strands:

• 3 strands ≈ sport weight
• 5 strands ≈ worsted weight

For Weavers

Zephira provides smooth warps, clean selvedges, and a beautiful drape after a light wet finish or steam block. It performs wonderfully in:

• Scarves, stoles, and shawls
• Yardage for garments
• Collapse textures and deflected doubleweave
• Twills that bloom lightly after finishing

Suggested Setts:

• Plain weave: 18–20 epi
• Twill: 22–28 epi
  Always sample to fine-tune for loom, beat, and finishing method.

Care
We recommend gentle spot cleaning and steaming for regular upkeep. For finishing or occasional washing:

• Hand wash cool with mild wool wash (avoid soaking)
• Gently press in a towel; lay flat to dry
• Steam or spray block if you prefer to avoid full immersion
• For high-contrast colorwork, finish with cool clear water only—detergents may cause darker colors to bleed
• Wool–silk blends can fade with prolonged strong light; store pieces away from direct sunlight
• Use an extra gentle fabric comb like the Gleener for touching up any pills when needed

To ensure your final fabric behaves as expected, always swatch and finish your sample using the same method you plan for your full piece.
